ABOUT US

The California Occupational Therapy Fieldwork Council represents the occupational therapy programs in the state. It is comprised of a dedicated team of Academic Fieldwork Coordinators that work together to support students and fieldwork educators. Since 1995, the council has empowered fieldwork educators with vital support and education to elevate the next generation of Occupational Therapy professionals. We’re dedicated to expanding high-quality fieldwork opportunities and equipping clinicians with the tools to become exceptional fieldwork educators. Our passionate team is committed to guiding both clinicians and students toward success in the dynamic field of Occupational Therapy.

AOTA – National Association

AOTA provides fieldwork-focused resources for programs and educators, including guidance on Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) fieldwork standards, supervision best practices, and tools to support student learning in clinical settings.

Key resources include the Fieldwork Educators page, Fieldwork Educator Certificate Program, student readiness materials, and mentorship and competency development publications.

OTAC – State Association

The Occupational Therapy Association of California (OTAC) offers webinars, conferences, and professional development opportunities that support clinical education and fieldwork practice across the state.

The California Occupational Therapy Fieldwork Council (CAOTFC) partners with OTAC to host two annual events focused on fieldwork education and clinical mentorship.

CBOT – Licensing Board

Provides regulatory guidance related to supervision, licensure, and continuing competence requirements that impact fieldwork educators and student supervision in California. 

CBOT guidelines state that a maximum of 12 PDUs for Level I and Level II fieldwork supervision may be counted toward each license renewal period.
